ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)

HOW TO GET INTERNATONAL ENGLISH QUALIFICATIONS


Learning and teaching English have become a huge global business as English plays a dominant role as a means of international communication. This trend is intensified by globally recognized universities and colleges offering their academic programmes in the medium of English to students from different parts of the world. Moreover, individuals from around the world have stepped up their search for global job opportunities that promise them better remuneration and work conditions. Consequently, a growing demand for English programmes, courses and testing systems that prepare individuals for international communication and assess their command of English has been created, and meanwhile, English language teaching opportunities see a similar explosion as the demand continues to rise.

 

ESOL is the acronym for English for Speakers of Other Languages and it is the globally recognized English language learning method, and the respective teaching methods is called TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).

According to CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) proficiency in any global language is organized in six levels; A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2, and they are broadly grouped as follows.

  • Basic User (A1/A2)
  • Independent User (B1/B2)
  • Proficient User (C1/C2)

University of Cambridge have gained their global recognition as one of the world’s leading organizations of student and teacher assessment through their well-established testing systems and qualifications.

 

  • A1 – Beginner / Starter
  • A2 – Elementary (Cambridge Test – A2 Key)
  • B1 – Pre-intermediate (Cambridge Test – B1 Preliminary | Teaching Qualification - TKT)
  • B1+ - Intermediate (Cambridge Test – B1 Preliminary | Teaching Qualification - TKT)
  • B2 – Upper-intermediate (Cambridge Test – B2 First)
  • C1 – Advanced (Cambridge Test – C1 Advanced | Teaching Qualification - CELTA)
  • C2 – Proficiency (Cambridge Test – C2 Proficiency)

 

COMMON ESOL TESTS ACCEPTED BY MOST VISA OFFICES, UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES, AND EMPLOYERS

Cambridge IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is a multilevel ESOL test available in two modules; academic and general, and both computer-based and paper-based tests are available.

PTE Academic is taken on a computer in a secure and friendly test center environment. It tests your skills in speaking and writing, reading, and listening.

Each PTE Home test is a pass–fail speaking and listening test, taken on a computer in a secure and friendly test environment. Successful completion of a PTE Home test provides proof that your English language proficiency meets the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) Levels A1, A2 and B1.

OET – English language test for healthcare professionals

The Duolingo English Test is an English proficiency assessment used to evaluate your ability to read, write, speak, and listen to English. As you progress through this computer-adaptive test, the question difficulty increases or decreases based on your answers to previous questions.
